Pregnancy brings many physical and emotional changes, but prioritizing self-care can help you manage the different experiences you’re facing.

Embrace is here to encourage and support you as you navigate this season. Here are some ways to prioritize self-care during pregnancy. (Looking for a safe space to find support? Contact Embrace. And all appointments are provided at no cost.)

Get Enough Rest

Your body is working hard to grow a baby, and rest is essential. Try to get at least 7-9 hours of sleep each night, and don’t hesitate to take naps during the day if needed.

This is easier said than done, but it’s so important to listen to your body—if you’re feeling tired, give yourself permission to slow down and rest, even for a few minutes at a time.

Take Time for Things You Enjoy

Pregnancy can bring a mix of emotions, and it’s important to do things that bring you joy and relaxation. Whether it’s reading a book, listening to music, spending time outdoors, or practicing a favorite hobby, making time for yourself can help reduce stress and boost your mood.

Eat a Healthy, Balanced Diet

Your baby is getting nutrients from what you eat, so focus on a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats—and try to avoid excessive caffeine, processed foods, and high-sugar snacks.

Eating well can help you maintain energy levels, support your baby’s development, and make you feel your best.

Drink Plenty of Water

Staying hydrated is crucial for both you and your baby. Water helps transport nutrients, supports digestion, and reduces swelling and fatigue. Aim for at least 8-10 glasses of water a day.

Having trouble remembering to stay hydrated? Keeping a 48-ounce water bottle next to you can serve as a reminder to sip throughout the day.

Surround Yourself with Supportive People

Having a strong support system can make all the difference during pregnancy. Surround yourself with positive and encouraging friends, family members, or support groups who can walk with you on this journey.

And don’t hesitate to seek help or talk about your emotions if you’re feeling down or worried about the future. While a certain level of stress is understandable during pregnancy, if these low feelings persist, you may be experiencing pregnancy depression—in which case speaking with a mental health professional will be vital.
